Brazil has been overtaken by India , in terms of the 2nd highest number of Covid-19 cases worldwide. India is now only behind the United States in the total number of cases.
The pandemic has continued its canter in India with 90,000 cases reported on Saturday that has now pushed Brazil to the 3rd place in the global list. This was the 4th straight day where infections saw a surge in India.
To add to the woes , the death toll in India due to Covid-19 has now become 70,000 as 10,000 deaths were reported in 10 days.
India’s total tally of cases are now over 4.1 million surpassing Brazil’s 4.09 million , as per the data compiled by worldometers.info .
Brazil may again overtake India once its final tally of Saturday is added but if the recent trends are anything to go by , India will again surpass Brazil in terms of caseload by Sunday.
India is in the middle of its highest spike seen by any country since the outbreak and has been recording nearly twice the number of daily cases than Brazil and the US over past few days. The past 24-hours have been eery with 89,960 cases reported that have helped India breach the 4.1 million mark , the 4th peak on the 4th successive day.
Maharashtra has again led the charts with 20,489 new cases on Saturday followed by Uttar Pradesh (6,692), Kerala (2,655), Haryana (2,289), J&K (1,251), Uttarakhand (950), Tripura (691) and Meghalaya (182).
Experts have warned against any laxation to social distancing and hygiene measures in the wake of a re-opening of the economy by the states. The country will have to pull its act together to stem the upsurge in the cases and get an hold of the disease by collective efforts of the governments and citizenry.
