The United States has decided to keep itself out of the global efforts under the World Health Organization(WHO) stewardship to jointly develop a vaccine for the Corona Virus , the White House said on Tuesday.
It is being seen as dicey gamble by the US which can pose a risk to the country by leaving it behind if a vaccine emerges somewhere other than the US.
Practically every country including the European Union , Germany and Japan are on board for the initial talks on the WHO led COVAX project in addition to other major non governmental organizations.
The project has proposed to disburse a possible vaccine candidate to countries across the world depending on the number of high-risk individuals there. The United States will not be one of those countries as per the WH statement.
White House spokesman Judd Deere briefed the press , “Under President Trump’s leadership, vaccine and therapeutic research, development, and trials have advanced at unprecedented speed to deliver groundbreaking, effective medicines driven by data and safety and not held back by government red tape.” He went on to add ,“The United States will continue to engage our international partners to ensure we defeat this virus, but we will not be constrained by multilateral organizations influenced by the corrupt World Health Organization and China.”
Deere stressed that President Trump will not worry about any expenses when it comes to the development of a vaccine and the same will be in line with the FDA’s gold standards for safety and efficacy that actually saves lives.
President Trump’s administration has blamed the WHO squarely for failing to hold China to account for the spread of the disease. This move has been criticized by health experts who have called for a joint tackling of this problem instead of pursuing a whodunnit at this point of time as the virus continues to create a chaos in the US.
Covid-19 being a global issue, needs to be addressed globally, everyone is a part of it.
